Fall Classic Final Game Captures 51M Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run averaged a combined over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 contest between the Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable game secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports channels, Fox Deportes and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 came in eighth, and the third game landed in 13th position.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in Canada after the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 p.m. local time, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six innings – drew 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Patterns

The full seven-match series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the complete American viewership reached over 16 million. The total World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise over the previous year and the network’s strongest postseason performance after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 different languages.
