The star has donated the complete sum of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize cash to the MVT, which works to protect the United Kingdom's grassroots concert spaces.

He was given the award on 16 October as his latest record his work was named the top album of the previous year.

The musician has opted to give the cash to the Music Venues Trust, in recognition of the essential function grassroots venues fulfilled in his early career.

"I personally wouldn't be doing this success if it hadn't been for all the shows I did around the region, and beyond, when I was just getting going," remarked the artist. "These locations are legendary, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, more than 150 of these venues have ceased operations – approximately 16 percent of the entire UK sector.

Recently, well-known musicians like the band Pulp, Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Sheeran have all aided the Music Venues Trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by adding a small levy to their ticket costs, which supports local stages.

Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his 2024 arena tour to assist 38 local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped locations that were facing possible closure due to issues stemming from flooding, blazes and bereavements, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and noise complaints.

Additional spaces obtained financial assistance in improving facilities and sound and lighting systems that directly benefitted performers and fans.

"The idea that money from performances in big venues supports the local stages, where it begins for performers like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has stated.

He is among several artists to donate his honor funds to charitable organizations.

Back when they earned the prize in the mid-90s for their record the album, lead singer Cocker announced that the group would contribute their winnings to the charity War Child.

In 2002, musician Ms Dynamite split her award between a few organizations, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell organization.

"Additionally, I contributed a thousand pounds to the center, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they required new equipment," she shared with the media.

Previously, they donated their prize money to the community center that nurtured their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners M People contributed their winnings to a MS organization after a close contact was identified with the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," said artist Heather Small. "The cash was the extra but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our winning impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the Music Venues Trust announced it had saved a couple of small stages in south-east England, by bringing them into public stewardship.

The first in that area and the second in that location were purchased under the Own Our Venues scheme, which is backed by the arts council and supporters who acquire "shares" in the venues.
